This is a well-crafted, highly visual, lecture for middle to upper ability kids who need to move from band 2 to band 3 - focusing explicitly on Priestley’s dramatic methods and effects on an audience.

Basically these are my resources for the last specifications and before, which is why they are cheap. They will get you sailing towards the new specs for sure, helping the kids to get fully familiar with the basics, including language, themes, context and characters.

Can be delivered to a whole year group or class by class to absolutely nail the method aspect of paper 1 Lit.

5 weeks’ worth of lessons to teach this much loved but under represented play - annoys me that Inspector Calls tends to pip it, which is why I’ve included the High Prior Attainment work and RAG most of the lessons. I teach AQA but the specification has changed about a billion times in the last six seconds, so most of the work is as generic as possible; I don’t go for teaching to the exam, I teach the play. It’s what we’re paid for. Passing the exam is the pupils’ job. Enjoy :-)

There is a pupil booklet with activities for each poem as well as a strategy for overall study. The poems are accompanied by a powerpoint including each poem.

6 weeks’ work with PPTs and Worksheets - works as an introduction to Gothic Literature. Could be used for a very able Y7 group, a mixed ability Y8 or a reluctant Y9 group as an introduction to the more challenging vocabulary and syntax of Dickens and Stevenson.

A great introduction to Persuasive Writing, using adverts to stimulate interest and engagement in the main task, analysis of three texts: JFK’s Moon Speech, Old Major’s Speech from Animal Farm and and Extract from Swift’s A Modest Proposal.

A single ppt three lesson unit based on The Gashleycrumb Tinies, suitable for a fun intro to Gothic Literature for KS3. Accessible and interactive for able Y7s up to more challenging Y9s.

A fun one-off, or introduction to Science Fiction, for an able Y7 or mixed ability Y8/9 - the ppt is the springboard for a week’s creative writing and group work, leading to a speaking and listening or presentation. The unit could also be set as a project based half term homework.

This is a brilliant little unit for a Y7 or low ability class who need ‘grabbing’. It’s self contained in one ppt, extremely easy to deliver and results in some excellent display work if you choose. You could use it as a starter for Gothic Literature.

This is a fully comprehensive scheme of work with a powerpoint and differentiated worksheet for each chapter, so you can make it last as long as you like. It’s a very difficult text to teach lower down so I’ve taken great care examining the range of challenging ideas within while keeping the lessons active and full of opportunities for discussion and creative writing as well as close textual analysis and assessments.

Scheme of work for Y7 or Y8 depending on your school. That sounds a bit drab doesn’t it; there’s loads to do and you can add what you want. It’s free.
